Sclairpipe high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe enabled the Region of Ottawa – Carleton to save time and money during the restoration of a deteriorating 915 mm (36”) diameter cast iron watermain. During the busy summer months, the 82-year-old cast iron watermain under Gloucester Street (one of the busiest streets in downtown Ottawa) was sliplined with Sclairpipe, instead of using traditional open-cut construction.

Sclairpipe was the pipe material of choice for its superior abrasion resistance and flexibility to negotiate minor bends during the trenchless sliplining installation. The watermain rehabilitation project utilized approximately 1,500 metres of 33” DR 17 Sclairpipe. The pipe was grouted in place and is expected to have a service life in excess of 50 years, based on a study
performed by National Research Council of Canada.

Since 1955, Infra Pipe has been providing high quality, high-density-polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, worldwide.

The fact that it’s leakproof is just one of the reasons that (HDPE) pipe has proven to be the right solution for all types of applications.

Chemically inert, light weight, corrosion and abrasion resistant plus the flexibility of a pipe that will deflect rather than crack under stress are all advantages that have made HDPE the standard for critical gas distribution application. Infra Pipe’s patented structural wall process makes it possible to translate those advantages to pipes of up to 120" in diameter.
